Best AI Models This Week: October 19, 2026

Five models worth knowing this week. Every number here comes from two public boards. Artificial Analysis carries the intelligence index and OpenRouter carries the live price per million tokens. Both boards were read on 19 October 2026. Nothing below is hand typed.

// In this post

  1. Gemini 4 Argon- The highest index at a mid price
  2. Muse Wonder- Agent work that runs for hours
  3. DeepSeek V4.1 Flash- The best value on the board
  4. Step 5 Preview- Video in at a low output price
  5. Kimi K3- Open weights with native vision

Gemini 4 Argon

Google DeepMind's own Gemini 4 Argon model page
Google DeepMind's own Gemini 4 Argon page. The page was read on 19 October 2026.

What it does

Google's frontier model for hard problems. The DeepMind page calls Argon the next era of frontier intelligence. It says Argon ties for first on CWE-Bench with 68 percent for vulnerability remediation. It also calls Argon its most resilient model against indirect prompt injections.

Where it runs

Research and security work that needs deep reasoning at a mid price.

It earns a place because it holds the highest index of the five at half the output price of the two models above it on the board. The DeepMind page also shows robotics work where the model turns raw video into a physics-accurate simulation. That is a useful signal for a team that wants one model for reasoning and for code.

What the boards say

Artificial Analysis gives it an intelligence index of 52.56 on 19 October 2026. OpenRouter lists it at $2.00 per million input tokens and $10.00 per million output tokens on the same date. The strongest point is that index at that price. The weakest point is that two Claude models still sit above it on the index.

Muse Wonder

Meta's own Muse Wonder model page
Meta's own Muse Wonder model page. The page lists a 1M context window and the same $4.00 and $20.00 prices that OpenRouter shows.

What it does

Meta's model for long running agent work. The Meta page says the Muse Wonder series combines frontier coding with long running agents and advanced computer use. It says Muse Wonder plans long tasks and delegates parts to sub agents and recovers from errors. The page lists a 1M context window at $4.00 input and $20.00 output.

Where it runs

Coding and computer use where an agent must keep working for hours.

It earns a place because it is the only model here that treats computer use as a first class feature. The Meta page says agents can see and operate browsers and desktop and mobile apps. It also carries active memory across a long task. That matters when a job runs for hours.

What the boards say

Artificial Analysis gives it an intelligence index of 52.39 on 19 October 2026. OpenRouter lists it at $4.00 per million input tokens and $20.00 per million output tokens on the same date. The strongest point is the agent and computer use focus at a 1M context. The weakest point is the output price. It is the highest of the five.

DeepSeek V4.1 Flash

DeepSeek's own Models and Pricing page
DeepSeek's own models and pricing page. The page names deepseek-flash as DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017 with a 1M context window.

What it does

DeepSeek's low cost model with vision. The DeepSeek pricing page lists the model version as DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017. It gives the model a 1M context window and a 384K maximum output. It also lists vision support and a thinking mode that can be turned off.

Where it runs

High volume work where the price per token decides the choice.

It earns a place because it is the best value on the board this week. The index sits above two models that cost far more per million tokens. The DeepSeek page also charges half price in off peak hours. That is a real saving for batch work.

What the boards say

Artificial Analysis gives it an intelligence index of 45.10 on 19 October 2026. OpenRouter lists it at $0.15 per million input tokens and $0.60 per million output tokens on the same date. The strongest point is that index for that price. The weakest point is the peak rate. Peak hours charge double on both input and output.

Step 5 Preview

StepFun's own Step 5 Preview model page
StepFun's own Step 5 Preview page. The page lists text and image and video input with a 1M token context.

What it does

StepFun's flagship model for agentic work. The StepFun docs call it the flagship model for agentic work with particular strength in finance. They list text and image and video input. They give it a 1M token context window and a 64k output limit.

Where it runs

Agent and document work that mixes video with long text.

It earns a place because it takes video as input at a low output price. The StepFun page also lists multi step agent tasks with tool calls as a core use. That combination is rare in this price band.

What the boards say

Artificial Analysis gives it an intelligence index of 43.73 on 19 October 2026. OpenRouter lists it at $1.00 per million input tokens and $2.70 per million output tokens on the same date. The strongest point is the video input at that output price. The weakest point is that its index trails the top of the board by about nine points.

Kimi K3

Moonshot's own Kimi K3 model page
Moonshot's own Kimi K3 model page. The page describes an open 2.8T parameter model with native vision.

What it does

Moonshot's open flagship model. The Kimi page calls K3 an open 2.8 trillion parameter model. It says the model is built on Kimi Delta Attention and Attention Residuals. It lists native vision and a 1M token context window.

Where it runs

Teams that want open weights for long coding runs.

It earns a place because it is the open model of the group. The Kimi page says the model is built for long horizon coding and knowledge work. A team that cannot send data to a closed API can still run this one on its own hardware.

What the boards say

Artificial Analysis gives it an intelligence index of 43.59 on 19 October 2026. OpenRouter lists it at $0.239 per million input tokens and $11.936 per million output tokens on the same date. The strongest point is the open weights with native vision. The weakest point is the output price. It is close to twelve dollars for a model in the low forties.

How to choose from this list

  • Start with the price you pay for output. That is the number that grows with a long answer.
  • Match the model to the job. A coding agent and a high volume chat bot do not need the same model.
  • Check the context window if you feed long documents. All five here carry about a million tokens.

The boards move every week. Artificial Analysis and OpenRouter are the two sources we read for this post.
